RAMPF Tooling: Basic training course for the plastics processing industry

From reactive resin to reactive molding material

Liquid systems and board materials for modeling and mold making were the focus of the basic training course from RAMPF Tooling held at the RAMPF innovation centre in Grafenberg on 14 and 15 September 2011. The world’s largest producer of board materials offered companies in the plastics processing industry the opportunity to take an in-depth theoretical and practical look at basic chemical and technical aspects of processing polyurethane and epoxy systems as well as standard build-up processes for models and mold making

Training in plastics processing with reactive resin moulding materials

Training in plastics processing with reactive resin moulding materials from RAMPF Tooling for participants from the plastics processing industry

What happens if a reactive resin (resin) is mixed with a reactant (hardener) and additives (fillers)? What are the key parameters in processing a reactive resin molding material (cast resin mass)? This training course offered participants from the plastics processing industry, (automotive and foundry pattern making, interior fittings for yachts), theoretical and practical basics and expanded their knowledge in working with liquid components. The course’s other focal points included occupational safety and use of the RAMPF web portal as a key technical information tool. In the theoretical part, the experts from RAMPF Tooling presented basic know-how on mechanical and physical properties of board materials and liquid systems such as thermal expansion, resistance to chemicals and viscosity profiles. The course also covered build-up methods for producing models and tooling aids as well as processing/machining options for board materials. The focus of the comprehensive training programme then shifted to practical aspects. At RAMPF Tooling’s technical service centre, participants were able to look at the various build-up methods (layer construction, face casting) for new RAKU-TOOL liquid systems in model and mold making. At the start of the second day, the finished parts were demolded, examined and then discussed in depth. The programme also focused on processing RAKU-TOOL® board materials, bonding and repair options and milling techniques (milling parameters).
This basic plastics processing course, which is held each year and at times when sufficient demand exists, is aimed at interested customers who wish to refresh their knowledge of two-component systems and at junior staff in the plastics processing industry looking to gain a certain understanding of plastics.
Each participant received a certificate following the course.
The second part of the basic course on plastics processing with reactive resin molding materials focuses on various processes such as Close Contour Pastes, Close Contour Casting, vacuum bagging, resin infusion, prepreg, autoclave, compression molding and resin transfer molding (RTM).
